Sustainable Village Development by Bridging the Divide
Himalaya.net.np proudly supports free Internet services for school and community organizations. These free connections are funded by those of our members who can afford to pay for their services.
In addition Village Parent supports more free community connections through their donations . Poverty relief, sustainability and the preservation or world heritage are our mainstay principals.
Or mission is to connect remote Annapurna village locations to our network at the lowest cost possible. Members can then access our high speed Internet proxy server. In realty, we deliver services to these remote locations at just one third the equivalent Nepalese city Internet cost. Technically and financially we put the Internet within reach of many Himalaya villagers for the first time ever.
This provides them an opportunity for local business, community service, participation and education. Where members can afford to pay for a service, usually for small enterprise, they do pay. Were organizations have no resources but have a real need for the Internet they can approach us for a free connection.
The Himalaya.net.np proxy server automatically stores web-sites which are popular with members so they can be accessed over our high speed speed wireless nodes by other users.
The normal Nepalese Internet is very slow, about 1/10 the normal speed. It is also extremely expensive, about 10 times the world cost. Nepal's Internet supply is in very bad shape. Consequently we are independently negotiating with several satellite companies to supply us with international bandwidth at an internationally fair price.
When these negotiations are complete we will be able to employ our proxy solution anywhere in the country. Until then we rely on an intermediary radio ISP.
Unlike dial-up, even if it were available which it is not, our member connections to the
Himalaya.net.np Internet Proxy Server are permanent (always on) connections.
